Statement of TDP Chair Boyd Richie in Recognition of Martin Luther King Day
"Today we remember a great hero who dedicated his life to making the American Dream accessible to all people, regardless of race, gender or religion. Through his peaceful action and words of inspiration, Dr. Martin Luther King broke down barriers that were once thought indestructible. His guidance and leadership proved that social change could be obtained peacefully, and his selfless actions have inspired generations to join in the tireless pursuit of equality.
Although his untimely death is saddening, I am encouraged to know that Dr. King's legacy continues on. His teachings have helped mold and shape today's Democratic African-American leaders, who carry the torch and continue the fight for equal rights. I am proud that Dr. King's legacy continues to grow and flourish within these leaders. As we reflect on the profound impact Dr. King has had on our country, I encourage everyone to remember his ideals of peace and equality every day, not just once a year."
